Portrait of A Vampire Hunter: Richter Belmont
Source Material:
Richter Belmont originates from Dracula X: Chi No Rondo (Released only in Japan for t he PC Engine, our Turbo Graphic 16 system), but later he appeared again in Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night
Background:
Over the ages, a secret war has been waged between man and vampire, unseen and unknown to the public. At the center of this conflict is Lord Vlad Tepes Dracula, and the Belmont family of Vampire Hunters. Many great Belmonts have fought against Dracula’s undead forces over the years; Trevor, Christopher, Simon, and Juste Belmont have all dedicated their lives to destroying the menace of Dracula. There is one Belmont in particular that stands out among the rest, though. His name is Richter Belmont.
Richter Belmont's tale beings in 1792, 44 years after Juste Belmont sealed away a prematurely risen Dracula. He is on his way to the town of Aljiba, to meet his girlfriend, Annette Renard. Along on his trip, Death (Yes, Death, as in The Grim Reaper, a cohort of Dracula's) stops in to challenge Richter. After a brief battle, Death retreats. Richter arrives in Aljiba to find it burning to the ground and Annette, along with several other young women, missing. Richter, enraged and vowing revenge, made his way to Castlevania. Once there, he fought his way through, rescuing the kidnapped women, among which were Annette and her younger sister Maria Renard. Maria offered to help, using a magical dove and some familiars as weapons. Richter soon discovered that Dracula had been resurrected by a dark priest name Shaft. Richter defeated Shaft, and continued his trek through the castle. Richter finally made his way to the Clock Tower, and then to Dracula's throne room. Here he confronted Dracula, and after a brutal fight, struck the vampire lord down, restoring order and peace.
4 years passed. Then, one day, Richter mysteriously vanished from his home in Warakiya. After not returning for almost a year, Maria Renard set out to find Richter. It was about this time that Alucard, son of Dracula and a human woman, was awoken by a great evil presence. He went to investigate, finding that Castlevania had yet again appeared, and this meant only one thing: Dracula had returned. Alucard, wanting nothing more than to rid the world of his father, journeyed into the castle. It was not long before he ran into Maria, who informed him of her search for Richter. Alucard promised to keep an eye open.
It would not be until Alucard reached the region of the castle known as the Coliseum that Alucard first encountered Richter, but something seemed odd. In an interesting turn of events, Richter proclaimed him self lord of Castlevania, and sent two monsters after Alucard, leaving during the fight!
Confused, Alucard informed Maria of this during their next meeting. She was hesitant to believe, but gave Alucard a key item to unraveling the mystery of Richter's claims: a pair of magical goggles, which would allow the wearer to see what the normal eye could not. Alucard equipped the goggles, and headed off to confront Richter.
He found Richter in the very same throne room that Richter had defeated Dracula in 5 years earlier. However, with the goggles equipped, Alucard could see that something was amiss. Floating around Richter was a strange green ball that he could not see otherwise. Alucard concentrated his attacks on the green ball, and eventually is shattered, revealing a mysteriously alive Shaft. Richter began to talk, sounding as though he had regained his senses. Shaft then revealed that he had possessed Richter in a effort to eliminate the one thing that stood in his way to bringing back Dracula. He vanished, saying that while Richter was no longer his, Dracula's resurrection was immanent, and he summoned a completely upside down version of Castlevania. Alucard asked Maria to help the weakened Richter to safety, and she did, leading him to a cliff facing Castlevania, and there they waited for Alucard. It was shortly after daybreak that Alucard appeared before them. He thanked them for their help, and Richter apologized for his actions. Alucard left, proclaiming that he was going to go back to sleep. Maria ran off after him, and Richter returned home, hoping to live out a peaceful life.
Appearance:
Since I suck at physical descriptions, here's a few images:

Richter in Chi No Rondo

Richter in Symphony Of The Night
Personality:
Richter tends to be a level headed kind of guy, nice and friendly, but ready to fight evil as needed, and but don't mess with his friends and family, or he'll have your head for it.
Equipment And Abilities:
Equipment:
Vampire Killer: The whip of legend, Vampire Killer is the same whip that every Belmont through the ages has used to combat the forces of Dracula. First created in 1094 using Leon Belmont's alchemy enchanted whip and fusing it with the soul of his beloved wife Sara. It is one of the only things that can truly harm Dracula
The Mystic sub weapons: The mystic sub weapons are: enchanted daggers, enchanted axes, a mystic stopwatch, holy water, Holy books, rebound stones, Bibuti (Holy ashes), and Aguena ( a lightning weapon).
