Survivor XVI
From TaikaiWiki
Survivor XVI: Kingdom Come was a main tournament held from April 10, 2005, to April 20, 2005 at the TaikaiWiki forums. Survivor XVI was the first tournament to be hosted by three people, with Tenshi Kain acting as the main host and Alexander Krizak and Soujiro Seta providing system and writing support respectively. The tournament chronicled as its overstory the saga of King Vire Agraumar, the "Void-King" who, from the heart of Carpasia, the City of Dreams, mounted what he desired to be the Void's final campaign of victory against the Eternal Kingdom. Forming a "Rogues' Gallery" with his seconds, the former Knight Arcana Ceriseth and the former Muse Biollante, Vire gathered together a host of chosen from pre-2003 RPGs, fighting games, and strategy games whose prowess and regrets intrigued him, and who he desired to spare when, at the end, he wiped clean the present slate of existence and created a new one in its stead. Over the course of five worlds, he both studied their actions and used them to help him obtain the last components of his monstrous army. His efforts were discovered by Krizak the Dragon God and Fabian the Beta- the former of whom shocked the latter in joining the Rogues' Gallery. After Fabian was "killed" in a duel with Ceriseth in the fifth round, Vire brought his chosen in triumph with him to Arcadia, home of the Eternals, for the final battle, giving them the choice to side with him as Krizak had, or fight as Fabian chose. A hellacious battle ensued as Vire brought hundreds of thousands of pilfered monsters and soldiers against the Eternals' home world, but the battle turned sour when a shaken Ceriseth was injured in combat with Sephiroth. Vire chose to retreat with his wounded second to Carpasia, where he and Biollante made their final stand and enacted a fail-safe plan to annihilate the Multiverse by absorbing its dreams through the Sea of Zurvan in the very depths of the city. Eventually, Vire and Biollante were calmly defeated by the efforts of Ari Nameless, Albel Nox, and the victor, Dizzy, who with the awakened Grim, Prince of Carpasia, brought a peaceful end to his campaign of annihilation. The final round ended in a series of strange revelations, the largest of which was that Vire, in his attempt to absorb Zurvan, had created a "second" Multiverse, or, perhaps more accurately, recovered something that already lay hidden from its own existence...

Battle System
Survivor XVI used the SHINRA System, a direct decendant of the SHIN System used in Survivor XII. Sponsors chose from five SHINRA Types, each one playing in a entirely different manner: Standard Type, with a relatively straightforward and simple set of abilities; Harbinger Type, with trickier abilities that manipulated people and punished healing; Impulse Type, which had only A-Votes and R-Votes and a limited set of abilities, but could attack or heal other sponsors twice in a round; Newtypes, which had a large pool of AP and access to more abilities than any other type; and Radical, which specialized in counter-attacking people who attacked them, but lacked healing abilities. Sidekicks and Fallen were automatically assigned the Assist Type, which specialized in abilities that helped or hindered sponsors rather than directly hurting or healing them.

Retirement was abolished just prior to Survivor XVI, allowing formerly retired characters to be sponsored once again. Personal assists were allowed.
